In 2020, city leaders in Tbilisi, Georgia, initiated a project to replant the Tbilisi Urban Forest with a biodiverse palette of endemic and climate-adapted species. Ruderal developed and tested a novel approach to urban afforestation that integrates ecology, technology, and aesthetics via two planting projects within the 700-hectare territory.

Eco Park Durres is a large public park built on a former landfill that was a serious environmental problem for the city. The design is inspired by a famous local Roman mosaic, “The Beauty of Durres”, which serves as a metaphor for the transformation of a polluted site with negative connotations into a public space for recreation and environmental education.

The primary goal behind the manifestation of this project was to improve the livability and the quality of life in the neighbourhood by increasing the presence of environmentally and ecologically significant elements in the area. The park is located on a unique post-industrial site wedged between prefabricated housing blocks and new office buildings.

Lehel Square station is one of the stations of the newly reconstructed metro line M3. The original interior design of M3 was a design icon of the ’70s and ’80s. The reconstruction keeps the original structure in place, while making the station accessible with new elevators and providing a new contemporary look keeping the original design of the line in mind.

The project of transformation one of the oldest streets in the city from car-oriented to pedestrian. The goal for the Haukeland Station has been to reconcile high urban ambitions with complex underground technical solutions, with a particular focus on passenger safety and perceived security. The station connects the city’s largest workplace, Haukeland University Hospital, and the health clusters in the area with the light rail network in the city.

This pedestrian junction is an multilevel urban connector, consisting of a bridge and two tunnels. The project is defined by a soft, undulating skin, which pursues the continuity of movement and is covered by 100 000 clinker shingles. It aims to be a landscape landmark to motivate people to walk and cycle by creating an attractive waypoint.

Surrounded by nature reserves, the sensitive landscape of Svencelė is one of the few remaining places where development of new recreation areas is possible in Klaipėda region – Lithuania’s only access to the Baltic sea. The abandoned soviet duck farms and territory are regenerated cereating a delicate urban fabric where water and wind are key elements.

The only flat and open area of the steeped village of Piódão is given back its dignity as welcoming lobby and gathering place. What was previously a parking lot has been redesigned, paved and partially shaded using traditional materials and techniques. The space was given back to its people following their material and constructive culture.
