The project proposes a new approach to the A5 highway, analyzing its evolution and proposing a logic of occupation between rustic and urban areas. It envisions creating a new centrality and entrance to Cascais, with new connections and large-scale built elements that transform the road experience into a cinematic film through an utopian vision.
The project aims to transform the A5 highway part from Alcabideche node to Cascais node into an integrating element that enhances the experience for both travelers and observers. It proposes strategic sectioning of the A5 corridor, as a “barcode” and redefines its perceptual plot through four ways of strategic action: the A5 as a square, the Periphery as a Center of Activity, the Re-sewing of the territory and the Valley as identity. At an approximate scale, the project aims to analyze and enhance physical accessibility links and propose a new urban structure, while at the architectural scale, it defines a complex built structure, the 'Symbol,' that constitutes a reference identity at the end of the A5. The ‘Symbol is the exception of the matrix established through the sectioning of the axis, “floating” on top of the Cascais node and re-defining the idea of a square, associated with a piece of architecture singularity, a landmark.
