In search of a new dimension of the city.

The work presents a planning and urban planning project for the spatial development of Bytów as an element of the network of small Kashubian towns. The concept includes planning guidelines for the development of the city, the urban design of the center, the principles of building development and the proposed methods of implementation and staging.

The project, preceded by analyzes of local conditions, was prepared on three scales - the entire city, the historic center and detailed solutions of selected places.\r\nGeneral guidelines for the development of Bytów were prepared regarding the protection of environmentally valuable areas, communication as well as the boundaries and distribution of new buildings.\r\nFor the historic center of the city, an urban concept was prepared, based on the principles of sustainable development, as well as local conditions and the specificity of Bytów as a northern, Kashubian small town.\r\nThe project assumes the recovery of degraded areas in order to introduce new housing and service buildings and greenery to the center, meeting the high demand of the residents. It will also slow down the progressing suburbanization of the city. Both extensions to the existing layouts and completely new residential complexes are planned. The project envisages supplementing the existing natural system to create uninterrupted routes in greenery and ecological corridors connecting the center with natural greenery outside the city. The natural axis of the city is to be green routes along the Boruja and Bytowa rivers. Exposing them will make it possible to perceive the city from a new perspective. The most important spaces in the city: The market Square, new residential streets, the new Bytów Culture Center and recreational areas near the rivers have been developed in detail.\r\nA set of general principles has been prepared to be followed when designing new buildings in the downtown, frontage buildings of Bytów. Compliance with them will allow for the introduction of a coherent character of architecture in the city center.\r\nThe project is also accompanied by a description of the implementation of solutions and the proposed stages. Thanks to them, the project has a chance to contribute to the actual revitalisation of the city.
