Based on improved mobility, this master thesis presents a proposal for a sustainable project extension of the cable car Transmicable by an improvement and upgrade of the surrounded undeveloped terrains. Social, ecological and economic sustainability are in the foreground.
The project proposal is the upgrading and attractiveness of the undeveloped, unused and criminal terrains near the cable car TransMicable in order to counteract the challenges of the location and to transform it into a sustainable project extension of the cable car. The proposal and design are based on an intensive examination of the theory of sustainability, an analysis of urban sustainable reference projects in different countries and on participatory work with local residents. In order to ensure social, ecological and economic sustainability, a matrix based in the theory was created and served as the basis for the project design. The result of this work is on the one hand an urban planning strategy on a conceptual scale – the “Circuito sostenibile”, a circular meeting corridor. It includes 10 integrative interventions, such as social public spaces or productive facilities for residents, which are connected to each other as well as to the stations of the cable car and integrated into the urban structure by a sustainable mobility and green space corridor. A section of the “Circuito Sostenible” has been elaborated in detail, which serves as the pilot project of the work – “the active training centre”. This detailed project is located at the last station of the cable car and offers the residents the opportunity to independently train, recycle, produce, plant and sell products.
