Master plan
The thesis aims to experiment an urban landscape plan-project, that sees application in the city of San Giovanni Valdarno, aimed to develop strategies and actions for the reconfiguration of a multifunctional system of open spaces and diffused naturalness, understood as essential endowment for an adaptive and resilient city.
The project strategy developed, through a case study, aims to give valuable tools, also for local administrations, to be adopted in the urban landscape design process, applicable on different territorial scales. For this reason was developed an experimental urban landscape plan-project path which aims to gives strategies and actions for the reconfiguration of a multifunctional system of open spaces and diffused naturalness, understood as essential endowment for an adaptive and resilient city. From this point of view, sociality, movement, well-being and economy are supported by a regenerated ecological balance of the city, for all the living species. The masterplan structure: 3 levels: sustainable mobility, ecological network and open spaces. 4 main goals: Combating climate change for a more adaptive city, Strengthening the ecological network and promoting urban biodiversity, Fostering public life and well-being, Improving the civil and circular economy; 29 Landscape based solutions (LBS) : a list of actions and practical solutions to apply to landscape design. These include not only the more known NBS (Nature based solutions), but, assuming that any design action in space, creates, moves, modifies the landscape, LBS also includes man as an actor promoting the improvement of its own habitat. The site of study chosen for the application of the project is located in the municipal area of San Giovanni Valdarno (Italy, Tuscany AR). It is a significant portion of the urban landscape, which includes the core of the historical foundation, the river belt of the Arno and the heterogeneous settlement system. The master plan, which follows a multi-scale approach, brings out the three levels of the project, then identifying 35 major areas of intervention and each of these have been assigned various actions and solutions (LBS). It was finally appropriate to apply what was proposed in the masterplan, in one of the selected areas, \"Piazza Olivetti and the nearby system of open spaces\", in order to demonstrate the methodology of punctual application of project proposals.
