The project aims to develop some abandoned areas placed in the eastern part of Naples. Specifically, it aims to construct new spaces maintaining the original character of the city, stratified and identity-based. In particular, it deals with a fundamental space within the complex urban and metropolitan layout of the city, near the train station in Naples
This project proposes a connection strategy between the ancient city and the industrial one, involving the creation of a path that intercepts some emergency architectures that, through specific interventions, would reactivate parts of the city. This path is part of an existing system of urban facilities that will be reinforced through interventions on green areas and the creation of an equipped axis with new trees, urban furniture, and new protected cycle and pedestrian paths. The focal point of this project is the area of the former Garibaldi train station in Naples, which, through redevelopment, can integrate different urban fabrics. In order to achieve this result, we consider it essential to improve accessibility through the creation of a fundamental intermodal hub for the city. The design idea is based on three themes: the regeneration of areas, the design of public open spaces, and the integration of existing built heritage. The linear urban park, starting from Porta Nolana and entering the area, is articulated into mineral courts, green spaces, and crossings, thus becoming the backbone that organizes infrastructures and facilities within it, creating a complex made up of renovated pre-existing structures and new buildings. Working on the existing structures, we have tried to make the best use of the present emergency architectures. The transformation of the former Fs freight yard into a collective hub is very important. The architectural quality of the building has allowed us to adapt it to host various functions, such as co-working, workshops, laboratories, recreational and educational structures, as well as hosting a large covered market with adjoining refreshment areas and a winter garden. In the easternmost area, a new urban infrastructure has been designed, created through a monorail building that becomes the new front of Garibaldi Station. This building connects the Centro Direzionale with the project area, two areas that, although not very distant from a geographical point of view, currently appear disconnected.
