With different types of urban forestation, the goal is to improve the quantity and quality of the network of public green spaces and produce concrete effects in regulating urban microclimate and water regulation. Not secondary are the spin-offs at the social level by generating economic virtuosity and pursuing the goal of environmental justice.
The downtown area of San Benedetto del Tronto is proposed as a quality city on a human scale. \r\nDesign interventions take into account the daily needs of multifunctional spaces, implementing green NBS and blue SuDS solutions, addressing urban emergencies from a contemporary perspective: reducing land consumption, avoiding biodiversity loss, and introducing slow mobility systems from the perspective of proximity for better connectivity in the neighborhood. \r\nGreen/blue infrastructure becomes strategic axes of connection between areas identified for adaptation and major social and service hubs. The objectives urge rethinking the railway barrier crossing in line with the relocation of the bus terminal and the regeneration of the filter area between the city and the port at the northern entrance to the city. It will happen with the inclusion of the new university hub, the redevelopment of the old stadium, and the inclusion of an interchange parking lot that will accommodate parking spaces reduced by de-sealing operations. \r\nThe master plan for the area acts on the environmental, infrastructural and settlement system. \r\nThe road system of the seaside village is reorganized into macro-blocks, maintaining the main driveways while the internal ones become shared safe streets. \r\nTemporary uses are an opportunity in places where permanent interventions cannot be proposed due to the intrinsic value of the place or for economic reasons. In synergy, tactical urban interventions in small pieces of the urbanized fabric constitute low-cost, reversible attractive hubs that can engage the community in participatory processes. \r\nIn the area in front of the train station, a series of interventions are concentrated in which the station takes on the role of the hub of slow connections to the city. The tree-lined mineral plaza, from which the green connections branch off, will continue to maintain its dual function (market-parking). \r\nThe final phase included verification to 2050 of the improvements due to the design interventions. We still have 30 years to act it is true...but it is better to start today.
