In 2019 the Luma Foundation commissioned Assemble and BC Architects to transform a 19th-Century train depot in Arles into Atelier LUMA, a design lab exemplifying bioregional design, using Camargue resources, regenerative materials and local knowledge for a sustainable, socially engaged architecture.

The training swimming facility in Vienna’s Großfeldsiedlung connects to the existing indoor pool from the early 1980s by means of two cantilevered bridges. A three-dimensional, vegetated steel structure envelops the glazed timber-construction swimming hall with a green veil.

In response to the war in Ukraine, we transformed a vacant 1200 m2 floor of an office building (Warsaw, PL), into a school for over 300 Ukrainian children (6-17 yo). Town Hall in Leopoldov as a complex consisting of the original building converted into a municipal library, and the new building, integrating all the required functions and the public space in between and around the two buildings. The former central post office building is an extraordinary example of Lithuanian modernist architecture from the 1970s, a unique creation by the architects Algimantas and Vytautas Nasvytis. In 2020, city leaders in Tbilisi, Georgia, initiated a project to replant the Tbilisi Urban Forest with a biodiverse palette of endemic and climate-adapted species. Ruderal developed and tested a novel approach to urban afforestation that integrates ecology, technology, and aesthetics via two planting projects within the 700-hectare territory.
