PERLE is the first newly built contemporary daycare centre, exemplary for Latvia and the wider Baltic region. It is a pilot project for the EU deinstitutionalisation programme with the aim of helping children and grown-ups with mental and functional challenges to integrate into society. It received the Gran Prix of Latvian Architecture Awards 2022.

The alteration project of St. Paul’s Church (1876) aimed to create two new open and flexible squares: an exterior square serving as a meeting place between the city and the church’s activities, and an interior square where the church hall becomes a central hub around which new rooms, dining areas, and workspaces are arranged.

In the heart of the walled city of Nicosia, the new townhall provides a transparent interface between the civic and the public realms. Promoting participation & exchange of views, the building settles amongst the archaeological ruins that carry the history of the divided city. A glowing ’magic lantern’ at night, it provides a focus for regeneration.

As part of a homogeneous urban fabric, entirely heritage listed, a very tight-budget commission had to address the restoration of the neoclassical town hall, its connection with several more recent structures behind it, and the overall functional reorganization of the new resulting complex.

Valladolid used to be a city of clusters and courtyards; mysterious and marvellous hidden spaces that generated heterotopias for reflection. Some examples remain and many have disappeared. For the new School of Arts, located in a plot that used to be part of a convent’s orchards, a courtyard system is replicated to generate a ‘space other’ for creation.

The building ensemble containing 9 flats and a kindergarten is divided into two buildings to strengthen the interaction with the urban space. It is characterised by the consistent use of renewable building materials and a high proportion of timber construction. A low-tech climate concept supports this circular, resource-saving construction method.

The project is about the transformation of a former printing factory from the late 19th century into a contemporary art gallery, with the broader intent of bringing art into the daily social dynamics of the town. The intervention involves the site, organises existing stratifications, making evident each era’s modifications to the original building.

The project recovers the construction tradition of the corner dome with which the farmhouses were built in this region located between Extremadura, Castile, and Andalusia which is currently the largest pasture in the world thanks to the secular respect of its inhabitants for the oak groves to which it owes its wealth.
