The Brandhorst Museum will house a substantial private collection of late 20th-century and contemporary art, mostly paintings. It is a simple elongated building of three interconnecting volumes; its tall ‘head’ marks the south-eastern corner of the Munich museum quarter.

The Mercat del Born, an icon of 19th century industrial architecture, was designed in 1874 and completed in 1876. It operated as the city’s central market until 1977. In 1998, Barcelona City Council initiated a plan to renovate it as a Public Library for the Province of Barcelona. This involved excavating the ground underneath it, which revealed the remains of the city quarter that was demolished in 1714 as a result of the War of the Spanish Succession.

The site is on Tibidabo hillside close to the edge of Barcelona. It’s a 3.500m2 trapezoidal shape with a 3,5 meters gap on the short axis and mainly horitzontal on the long one. It has an excelent south-east orientation and it has some impressive views over Barcelona.

The Millbank Project involved the restoration of existing galleries and the opening up of circulation spaces around the Rotunda adjacent to Tate Britain’s riverside Entrance. The central archives of the Federal State of Saxony had accumulated more archival material than the old building could hold (its oldest record is a deed of 948 AD) and it was therefore decided to build an extension and to refurbish the old, listed edifice. Fulfilling all the requirements for storing archival material was a tall order.
