Phase 1 provides a public face for the university, a new entrance on axis with the Danube, a library and learning café for citizens and students. The campus becomes integrated with the urban realm.

    The school is built on a steeply sloping site. It is designed like a hill-town, with lanes and terraced courts connecting new and old together. New buildings work their way down the hill, passing between existing historic buildings. An external route negotiates the 18m drop in site levels, connecting orchard, courtyards, classrooms, and playgrounds.

    Reading on the treetops: The library is placed in a park on the border of a wide avenue that covers the railway network in continuity with the park, visually linked to the large trees. On its opposite side the main façade is a continuous lattice that builds up the park’s limit with the city.
