Kocka bar’s monolithic cubic volume & kocka translates to cube in Hungarian & is an easily recognizable landmark in the entertainment district of Budapest. The hundred year old building was fully renovated using value-based design and cutting-edge sustainable technologies.

We submitted a proposal as part of an invited competition for a new build to the North West of the city, just on the outskirts of the city center and close to the Tbilisi Court building. The brief was to create workspace for 60 members of staff, a substantial lobby and car parking. Work began in May 2011 and the building was completed in early 2012.

Swimming pool Vukovar is located on the site of the old, open-air swimming complex in Borovo naselje, which had been destroyed during the war of the 1990s. Work on the new project began in the far away 2004 and was at last in 2017, open to the public.

Linking the new library with the existing town hall, Zuidboulevard gives a contemporary response to an urban planning scar. The glass façades of the library draw the urban life of the streets beyond inwards, while gentle slopes, formed as an inverted ziggurat, lead visitors to the heart of the building. An intimate landscape of books unfolds.

The Immanuel church in a suburb of Cologne reinterprets the typology of the classical basilica for the need of a contemporary parish. Under one roof the compact and flexible building – completely made of timber – gathers various secular activities of the community and an auratic space of solemnity and worship.

The Newport Street Gallery was commissioned by Damien Hirst to show his extensive collection of contemporary art. The project involved the conversion of an extraordinary terrace of listed industrial buildings, that were formerly theatre carpentry and scenery painting workshops. The gallery opened in October 2015 and is open to the public for free.

An important cultural and educational project, the site comprises the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera in a 170,000 square meters landscaped park. After the competition, an intervention is planned for the existing building (1889) , which is located in the University City. The ESMA-CINECREATIS program gathers an animated film school and a student residence.
It is part of the redevelopment of Nantes former shipyards, the Parc des Chantiers Navals and takes its place among the former shipbuilding infrastructures and their ‘building set’ filled with ramps, boat slipways and booms.

Glass Farm reinterprets the volume of Brabant’s archetypical farmhouse in glass, creating a monument to the traditional farm. It is MVRDV’s 7th proposal for the site, Schijndel’s village square which had been heavily damaged during WWII. Glass Farm comprises a restaurant, a café, shops, offices and a wellness center.

Kvæsthus Pier is situated at the meeting of the urban city with the sea. The expansive surface of the pier stretches between a series of pavilions, ending in a freestanding tower. From here the surface of the pier gradually slopes down to meet the water, opening up to a unique space where one is alone with the elements – city, sky, and sea.

The scheme delivers a mixture of single and double storey dwellings with 40% made available to existing South Kilburn Estate social tenants.
