    The starting point for this task was a typical challenge in Oslo: densification in an area of existing single family houses. The house is broken up into smaller volumes to adapt to the relatively tight situation and the scale of the surrounding buildings. Prioritizing the enjoyment of the garden, and the interior openness of the spaces.

    The collective housing contains a system of 110 rooms, which can be used as desired. Answering to the client’s demand, each apartment can be expanded or reduced adding or subtracting rooms in order to answer to inhabitants needs. With that flexibility in mind, rooms are similar eliminating any type of spatial hierarchy and program predetermination.

    A room extends over time incorporating fences, and a stable contains crops and provides shelter to animals. The present structure, embedded in the section of the hill, is a belvedere towards the valley nestling the outskirts of the city. At the back of the existing building, a path winds up to reach the hilltop.

The ‘Big Friendly Giant’ foreshadows Amsterdam’s growth of high-rise buildings around river IJ. The design creates not just an iconic object but a public space within itself.

    Built in the early 60’s, they needed a renovation after their demolition has been ruled out. The transformation of the dwellings full occupied, starts from the interior, to give them new qualities: more space, more light, more view, and upgrade the facilities.

    Puukuokka One is the first eight-story high wooden apartment building in Finland. It explores the potential of modular prefabricated CLT construction to meet the goal of providing high quality, environmentally responsible and affordable housing.
    It has won several prizes including Finlandia Prize for Architecture and Resident Act of the Year 2015.

    The Carlsberg Foundation’s researcher apartments are situated next to J.C Jacobsen’s garden, in the transformed district of the Carlsberg breweries. A robust brick building, that appears simple in its structure, with clear presence to the surroundings and a robust scheme of materials in high quality.

    De Flat is an innovative renovation of one of the biggest apartment buildings in the NL called Kleiburg, a bend slab with 500 apartments, 400 meter long, 10 + 1 stories high.

    Consortium De FLAT rescued the building from the wracking ball by turning it into a Klusflat meaning that the inhabitants renovate their apartments by themselves.

    The brick house is situated on a steeply sloping site above Dalkey Village in south Dublin with north and west views across the sea to Dublin city and the Irish Sea beyond. The living room is on the top floor. The first idea is the circulation, entrance from the garden to the west terrace for family and entrance through the front door and fireplace for visitors.

    One of the first housing projects of the office, the Aaron Florian Apartment Building, completed only mid last year, is an honest answer to a particular urban setting: an irregular plot, the closeness of the opposite building raising privacy issues, a blind wall to a difficult neighbor and an inflection of the street.

    Resulting from an international competition launched by the city of Paris in 2008, the 378 housing units of the Auteuil station project were entirely delivered in 2019. Unique urban and architectural piece, this operation is carried out by the architects Anne DEMIANS, Finn GEIPEL, Francis SOLER, Rudy RICCIOTTI and the landscape designer Louis BENECH.

    Nowe Żerniki was not supposed to be an exhibition. To describe it in a nutshell, it is a process, workshop, training ground. If we do not rise to this challenge today, then in a few years it will be us – architects and town planners – who will be held responsible for the lack of response to the growing housing problems and poor spatial quality.
