Paraisópolis is the second largest favela in Brazil. The prototype is a water treatment plant that generates a series of pools and gardens that works as an open space in the slum, with other uses associated. The building in design so the users are able to take the space as needed and make their own.
I decided to start working in the favela due to the interest the place had as a laboratory and social, urban and architectural condenser. I started then to read about the future plans the local government has for Paraisópolis which is the second biggest slum in Sao Paulo. The possibility that part of the slum is inserted into the surrounding neighborhoods, making the price of the floor increase very quickly, forcing the residents to move to different part of the city.\nSo I decided that maybe there was a possibility that increased the life quality in the slum and also helped the surrounding neighborhoods and the city itself, I was interested in trying to prevent private companies take advantage from people living in Paraisópolis and thought that as long as the current slum was able to include part of the elements an expensive area of the city does not want it may be able to stop the gentrification or at least making it softer. The Idea was then to design how to include infrastructure in an overcrowded place and how it would be possible to make it work and give something back to the favela.
