The Ujváry Colony of Artists is a project that’s aim is to maintain and preserve the values of the discovered and presently abandoned Ujváry Atelier in Kisoroszi and to create a fully artistic place which does not exists in the village now. The function of the old atelier would be valuable again through completing it with new functions.
This part of the island was always very popular among Hungarian artists. A number of famous painters and writers lived and created here, for example Ignác Ujváry, István Fekete or Péter Nádas. The artists generated a bustling cultural life, nowadays an active artistic life also exists. There are some places-inn, coffee-house, library in the village that give place for the cultural life. I would like to continue the existing cultural network, and to complete it with functions which do not exist presently. I would like to create a public building-, space that could give a possibility for creation, collaboration, exhibition in different kind of arts; painting, sculpture, literature, music and dance. The functions what I created are ateliers, a bar, a residence for the artists and a gallery. The location I chose is already a value of the cultural life, the abandoned atelier of Ignác and Ferenc Ujváry and its site on the Danube bank. The Ujváry Atelier was built in 1898 and it has been abandoned almost for 50 years inside with paintings, furniture, photos etc. The local government in Kisoroszi bought the atelier and its site in October of 2015. Their aim is also to preserve the discovered values and to keep the building in its original form. They would like to maintain the value of the house on completing the original function with new functions. The new building and its site would be an all-arts place opened for anybody who is interested. I followed this principal as well to create the programme of the new houses. The Ujváry Atelier is the only flat-roofed house in the village therefore the new building on this site has a free hand in forming.
