A door to the city, a public viewpoint that rises through a walk that crosses the landmarks of the industrial heritage; on a place where vestiges of past are recovered that tell the history of Valencia. An interdisciplinary centre that go with the creators in all the stages of the artistic process. An ideal atmosphere for the encounter of the arts in the city.
A sensitive proposal to the place, to the past and to the different strata of its history. Collect a series of memories by recovering the old traces of the medieval wall, the alignments of factory buildings, the presence of vegetation or the design of water lines that evoke the layout of the old ditches that ran through the plot. From the old Turia riverbed, the volume acquires a character of fortress, sensorially recovering the collective memory of the place. After its guided ascent, a large opening allows the user to visually identify the continuation of the itinerary that crosses the project. Recalling, with a renewed and contemporary reading, the symbol of a door to the city. A shadow, a threshold of transition, a sound of water in motion invites the citizen to enter an interior public square. A permeable building is discovered, open to the neighbourhood and in constant movement. A meeting point and synergy between users of the center and passers-by. It consists of a multidisciplinary center dedicated to training, creation and contemporary artistic production that allow the development of projects in the area of painting, sculpture, ceramic crafts, textile and audiovisuals. Parallel to the internal use of the centre, a route is designed that allows citizens to discover and be part of the artistic sequence, feel the art and enhance creativity; linking also in the last section the centre with the Valencian Institute of Modern Art. And as if it were a "Round passage", the route passes through the roof, giving the building the use of a public viewpoint with privileged views of the city. In terms of materiality, two elements are taken as protagonists: concrete and alabaster; innovation and tradition. A slightly colored concrete to adapt to the tonalities of the Carmen neighbourhood. An alabaster that is placed on the facades and allows blend in with the façade during the day; while filtering the light in the interior, creating an atmosphere of inspiration and at night, it becomes a lamp to the city.\nAn equipment at the service of citizens that aims to recover the collective memory of the place.
