How to ensure the rescue and development of the TP4 wetland in Tunis, while ensuring its harmonious integration into urban development dynamics? The TP4 wetland in Tunis is threatened by urban expansion, pollution, and marginalization. The challenge is to create a space that preserves its ecological value while making it accessible for environmental education and public awareness. The project rethinks urban-wetland transitions through a CESP approach.
TP4, part of the lagoon complex of Tunis,is one of the three wetland areas designated by the RAMSAR convention in the capital. in this context, the present work proposes rethinking the sama dubai project through various valorizing and protective transitions connecting the urban area to the wetland, leading to the creation of a CESP center, the first of its kind in Tunisia. The project aims to establish a balance between the demands of urban development and ecosystem preservation, inspired by the concept of the "in-between" to reconcile city and nature. The intervention is structured around three transition moments: 1️⃣ The CESP Antenna: This first phase involves repurposing an abandoned industrial wasteland to create a new, open, and flexible space that can adapt to various uses and interactive exhibitions and conferences. A radio station will also be integrated, serving as a broadcasting platform for educational programs and discussions . 2️⃣ The Awareness Pathway: This second phase extends along the former port area, implementing strategic measures to protect the TP4 wetland. Necessary setbacks have been respected, and a buffer zone of trees has been planted to form a natural barrier. The pathway will include various awareness and recreational activities, fostering a deeper connection between the urban environment and the wetland. 3️⃣ The Wetland Center: This final phase is inspired by bird footprints. The center’s volumes are slightly elevated above the ground, creating a sense of floating lightness and balance, capturing the essence of the "in-between"—between sky and earth. The structure is enveloped in a skin reminiscent of outstretched bird wings, blending metallic and tensile structures to enhance the sensation of flight and elevation.
