The choice of the area comes from the reading of the territory of the eastern area of Naples. Gianturco has great potential but started its decline with de-indutrialisation. The area is one of the sites of national interest and for this reason the remediation times take time. Today, the area is an assembled landscape composed of road connections that outline abandoned areas and symbols of former industrial complexes; that become identity elements. We can find some architectural themes: - Theme of enclosure - Theme of fragmentation - Theme of urban voids A district abandoned to itself.
The project, in the eastern area of Naples, focuses on the redefinition of the former factory, becoming a center among the various elements of the project. It is planned to work with temporary scenarios, starting from the areas that have started the remediation process. The first step is via Gianturco (where the former factory insists), along with the activation of the linear park, taking up the tracks of the Bayard, located opposite via Gianturco. The new street prospect is designed as a commercial street through the reuse of containers, very present in the area. The arrangement of containers parallel to the road allows for both longitudinal and transverse crossing towards social housing. It is envisioned, after the activation of these 2 leisure centers, the realization of social housing with additional elements such as community gardens and neighborhood park. The social housing body is set back from the street and the structure with cantilevered elements comes into contact with the park and the project itself as if they were optical cones. The main theme is flexibility of use. The aggregation system is based on addition and fragmentation of modules. The flexibility is given by common areas that are located between the various accommodations. A studio apartment will become a home for an entire family and a 80 square metres apartment can be divided to meet housing needs that change over time. The elevations will always be changing. Collective places do not undergo changes and are located in the external overhangs. These do not vary over time as opposed to the accomodations. The architecture becomes the center due to the suspended body on the first floor, which becomes a hinge with a centripetal force, which welcomes, and a centrifugal force that pushes outwards.
