Composed of a 3 × 138-meter stretch of fabric, the installation extends across both Liberty Square and the courtyard of the Garrison Building at the heart of Timișoara. Conceived for the 2024 Timișoara Architecture Biennale, it bridges the city’s central public space and a secluded courtyard through two catenary lines that invite visitors to move from openness to intimacy.
Bridging two distinct spatial contexts, the installation—made of semi-transparent fabric—responds to environmental conditions, transforming under the influence of light, wind, and rain. These invisible forces act as mediators, allowing viewers to perceive fleeting moments as they move seamlessly from the square to the courtyard. This elongated thread ultimately blurs the boundaries between front and back, and between public and private space, creating a continuous spatial experience. Shifting in color from red-orange to white, the fabric at times merges with the tones of the square’s pavement, while in other areas it contrasts sharply with the courtyard’s greenery and the blue of the sky. From a distance, the installation appears as a continuous strip of litmus paper stretched across the square, exposing the ambient exchanges between material, climate, and space.
Made of ultralight, fire-retardant organza weighing just 8 g/m², the 138-meter-long fabric weighed only 2.2 kilograms in total and could be rolled into a compact, portable form. Sewn on site and suspended with wire ropes, it extended from the rooftop to temporary supporting structures. After the biennale, the fabric was cut into smaller sections and repurposed as curtains for the Garrison Building, allowing the work to take on a new life in a different form and context.
