The reason of the project is not the architect -the creator- nor the building -his work-. It's the INTERACTION. The trigger is a collage of historic theatres that go beyond their definition. But the act is no longer admired, it's circled around. It's appropriated by the user. Space becomes movement and encounter.
In the search of the natural adaptation to a hostile and unknown surrounding is where Theôréô is created. A place to unite the legacy of the brazilian culture of music and theatre.\nTheôréô is born from a study of theatres along history and its spatial qualities that become a collage placed in the site. It claims the social aspect of space, the theatre as space no longer admired but circled around.\nThe same way as it happens in the favela, the project is based on the combination of different experiences. What we live is not the result of planning, but of the interaction and the conversation between spaces.\nIn the favela there is no grand avenue, it's all about different forms independent from each other with their own purpose. Strange shapes forced to live togethe. It's the architecture of the necessity, of the survival, a different way of understanding society, art and culture.\nEach piece is different but the material will be the link between the spaces that learns from the accumulation and fragmentation of the favela. The whole ranges in every way: from thin structures that form a connection bridge of large span that shelters small work spaces, to thick walls of concrete that form a big place to hosts clear and open spaces for multiple uses, from carnival carriage rides construction to open markets. Rejected wood is used for formwork and corrugated iron for the window grills. From the overlapping of structures and materials arises a new way of recovering the city. Every piece of material is necessary for it's construction. Every piece is connected to the next by a shared materiality. They are all related as actor and spectator that switch their rolls. The same way in which city is seen and being seen by the building.\nThe project talks about spaces more that uses, places of inspiration more that specific needs. As in the favela, it's not the space what creates the experience, it's the experience what makes the space. It's the legacy of Lina Bo: only the popular ad daily use completes the building.\nThe spaces are not unfinished, they are collective. It's the result of a socialized space appropriated by the favela citizen.
