What foreseeable future is possible to imagine for sub-Saharan Africa? Resources should be engaged inside the research of processes that are shaping the continent. European architect, local community and client are related to each other r to understand the role of the project and the designer in its.
The whole discussion takes place as an exploration in which different investigation techniques are combined. The main question, defined through an abductive process derived (from the analysis of case studies and documentary facts), interfaces with the complexity of the research context. The analysis is, therefore, focus on a specific area (sub-Saharan Africa), a theme (welfare interventions) and a precise period (twenty-first century). The study process led to a direct comparison with the main actor, the architect, through questionnaires and interviews. The exploration is, therefore articulated through four macro-themes (role, context, architect, case studies) that complement and follow each other until a specific and justified research framework is defined. The theme is defined as the logical connections are triggered up to the definition of the case studies. The European architect dissociates himself for a few seconds from the political sphere to be investigated as a subject able to mediate between the client and the local community in the urbanization processes of rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa. The discussion may also be partially concluded not with a definition, but rather a description of what the European architect is accomplishing in Africa.
