The aim of this project is revitalization of the historical downtown of Hrubieszów with the respect for the present social and cultural values and making an underground city available for public use.
The “Revitalization of Downtown Hrubieszów, along with the adaptation of underground tunnels” design is an original response to the frequent problems experienced by the Polish small towns, as well as a voice in the discussion on the role of revitalization as an important element of the restoration of public life in the city space. Nowadays, quite often revitalization projects dehumanize public space. This projects might serve as an example how to handle with that problem. Project focuses on essence of revitalization, starting from the most important actions to foster the social activity. New designed space is an example of active utilization of the potential of cultural heritage. It will also restore to the locals sense of belonging and awareness of their cultural heritage, at the same time becoming tourist attraction and the showcase of the region.
