Pointing towards the requalification of Quinta das Águias a rehabilitation of its palace is proposed as well as a new building (through the estate limit) which gives it a whole leading role in the city. A dialogue with a key character and a presence that evoke to memory in the contemporary context.
The natural and architectural heritages are means of appreciation of a city which; through their presence and articulation, they assume a structuring role in its experience. They are unique examples and constitute, through all the memories they represent, instruments that promote the transformation of the city. Nowadays, a part of the architectural heritage has lost autonomy and is no longer sustainable in what concerns the social and economic conditions at its core. Many of the buildings which compose the architectural heritage are abandoned and decaying, waiting for a solution that ensures they remain in the city in a dignified way. In this sense, it has become crucial to find (economic) sustainable means that ensure their adaptation and continuity, as a way of anchorage in history (memory) definition of their identity. In agreement with the new instances of the city of Lisbon (it has been highlighted in the tourist demand), the fact that heritage and culture have become one of its means of promotion, it has become imperative that areas that allow one to better enjoy this connection are created. The proposal suggests two distinct spatial experiences in the same building complex: The palace, as a symbol of the authenticity of past experiences, telling the story of the past and its contact with contemporary life; The new building, to be placed between the elevation of the street and that of the Park, constitutes a programmatic and special experience of current character. It arises from the reading of the place and its needs and is a building whose presence represents a memory inherent to the place. It is a new wing of the hotel complex, made up of contemporary rooms and leisure spaces, providing the guests with a unique relationship with the dimension of the Park.
