A new museum is proposed, with spaces of varied scales that are communicated through a path, plazas and patios. It seeks to create different relationships within art, the user and the memory of the place, introducing outdoor and indoor flexible spaces for artistic and cultural activities.
The project's site was specifically chosen in order to generate a new interest point in an area of El Raval that lacks activity and diversity of uses. It reinforces a new urban axis with public spaces and a network of cultural entities. As a museum, open to many forms of art and cultural events, with significant interior and exterior spaces, the project seek to produce a positive sociocultural development.\r\nThe two parkings, that are no longer in use, are now replaced with a series of volumes and patios. They seek to create different relationships with the art, the user and the memory of the place. Their shapes, different in sizes, generate a porous movement contrary to the existing large volumes.\r\nExisting trees are maintained while new vegetation, in between and on top of the volumes, transform not only the visitors' experience, but also the condition of the existing plaza and residents of the block.\r\nThe street facing volumes respect the heights of the neighboring buildings, to maintain a continuous image. In contrast, the four volumes inside the block are separated from the existing walls. Their interior spaces frame visuals towards the patios and the existing brick walls, creating a dialogue between the interior, exterior and the art.\r\nLocally made ceramic pieces wrap the volumes, bringing together artisans' craftwork and the history of the place. The transparent and continuous corridor connects all the volumes together while giving the visitors constant interaction with the green exterior spaces.
