The Master Thesis has, as theme of study, the importance of the practice of agriculture as a tool to organize the territory: Countryside and Metropolis-The Seed. It is a reflection on the conflict between the contexts of the Countryside and the Metropolis-The Tree. It is also, a proposal for the culture of agriculture at Arronches, Alentejo.-The Fruit.
The proposal wants to introduce the model of a The Good Garden, to improve the cult of Agriculture in Arronches, Alentejo. Arronches is a small village in district of Portalegre, it is also a Municipality divide by three parish: Assunção, Esperança and Mosteiros. The Village is located in a peak and in between a two canals of water: the River Caia and the Riverside Arronches. Nowadays the two canals of water turned into two obstacles, which they don´t allow the development of the urbanization towards to South-West-North direction. As conclusion, the River and Riverside are abounded and forgotten without any function. They are like a whisper that contours the village and it goes on a long tour towards to the Sea. The proposal is located in the River and Riverside in between the three Bridges A-B-C: the Bridge Santa Maria, the Bridge Nova and the Bridge Crato. Both Bridges design a letter “V”, one part directed for a Public Garden (A-C) and another part for a Produce Garden (B-C), together they create the cult of agriculture – The Good Garden. Peculiar moments appear in the rhythm of the River and Riverside, such as trees, rocks, abounded constructions, bizarre elements, myths and legends. These moments are the VICTIMS, they mark the existences, being elements crucial to stop, which deserve a little space to rest and to observe the view. The little spaces are the ASSASSINS, they are the new interventions which pretend to memorize and valorize the VICTIMS, such as the entrance/ means of exit towards to the Village, squares, point of views and amphitheaters. \nThere are twelve Victims and fifteen Assassins, in total they originate a new and multifunctional structure articulated with points of interest and with important lines of the Village. (A-B-C-D-E-F-G). The situation born when the Victim meets the Assassin, yet the circuit is free, there no rigid path or even a programmatic situation, but only some fig-trees that give to the walker an hunch of a direction.
