Study Centre for landscape architecture - Potsdam

The graduation project was born from my experience of studying abroad, where I appreciated directly the nature and history of Potsdam. The project concern the student target who daily move on the Potsdam-Berlin axis, which is the busiest in the region. Is it possible to generate a new form of hospitality for the users coming from the outside?

The project area of the student dormitory in Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße is located close to Park Sanssouci and runs along the historic residence of the Kingdom of the Prussian dynasty. This area has a very strong feature of the landscape, which it communicates directly with a clearing that plays an important role as it turns out to be the true architectural mass in the surrounding. The student dormitory is a key node to promote the making of new urban communities thanks to its strategic position in relation to the city center and the infrastructures, making possible the stay for the student-researcher coming from the outside Potsdam. The Study Centre for landscape architecture in Potsdam aims to build a zipper between the existing dormitory and vegetation, starting from a critical analysis, indeed today the place is lacking in services for students and workers. A first phase of work concerns the redesign of the dormitory by integrating the missing services in the new Student House through a splint in which there are included new spaces of aggregation. The project is developed according to the flow of distribution: the organization of the spaces stands on the path- ramp that distributes a public path, oriented to cover the exhibition spaces along all levels, and a path of the student that crosses the spaces of research. At the urban level there are the administrative spaces and a canteen, at the first level the exhibition gallery and classrooms workshops, on the two final levels there are four classrooms overlooking the patio, the recreational classrooms and the Conference Hall. The study area houses distinct bands of vegetation that spread in the clearing until dispersed in the forest. The vegetation has had a key role both in the project that in my memory.
