Space Transmitter of the Mound / Megalithic Dolmen

In January of 2007, the construction works on a secondary irrigation line in Segarra-Garrigues, caused the unexpected discovery of archaeological ruins in Seró, dating back to 2.800 BC & with an astonishing accuracy of the sculpted geometrical low relief decorations. A cultural centre was to be built on the terrain composed of the two unused orchards adjacent to the square of the scale, offering versatile uses and spaces. It was conceived in a way to bridge the vertical gap between the square and the orchards by using local materials. A succession of mild ramps with soft and elastic limits of corrugated steel suggests different paths and shelters the different conditions of the public space. A clay and earth platform between the square and the 'pre-Pyrenean' horizon works as a viewpoint of the four steles from where we can observe the archaeological ruins. The inside space offers local products from wine cooperatives. A multipurpose room offers a social centre, a reception to the museum area and informative documents of the megalithic remains. We start entering the room of the stele along a spiral tour with an almost imperceptible slope, surrounded by ceramic pieces that filter the light, the air, the countryside smell, the fog. The light intensity weakens, the ceramic pavement disintegrates and the overhead light focuses the eye on the edged surface of each of the stele, silence... Time slows down in a space of accurate contemplation, in a horizontal plane of clay powder showing the footprint of each visitor. Quietly, we start to walk out from the other side - there is no possibility of the two paths ever crossing… Gradually, intensifying light and noise accompany us, until we face the horizon of a wheat field, which takes us back to the common agricultural landscape of the area.
