Regeneration of an abandoned military industrial area in the city of Torino, Italy; creation of new urban spaces through the design of a sustainable mixed-use district, through a process of participation, innovation and development.
The aim of this work is to propose a regeneration process both for the project site and for the surrounding urban area, taking into account the existing regulations and the future redevelopment programs with a critical eye.\nThe objective is achieved by seeking the optimal strategy in order to foster new tools for a smart redevelopment of abandoned urban areas, adopting the criteria of an environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability program.\nThe project proposal aims also to be a social re-use and innovation experiment, not a given result but an ongoing process for a progressive and flexible development, which can be adapted to the changing needs of the present cities.\nThe new district will be able to reactivate this troubled part of the city and attract new flows and activities, building a powerful synergy between built and unbuilt, architectural heritage and innovative features, creating a common ground for participation and interaction.\nWe wanted to create a new model for interventions in abandoned areas in urban and suburban contexts, with a conservative approach to the architectural and historical heritage, and at the same time enhancing innovative ways of living, working and sharing knowledge, strengthening the traditional economies and promoting new opportunities.
