Single family house in Dardania neighborhood - Gjilan, Kosova

The aim of this project is building an ecofriendy and modern house in a small space. The building is located in an urban area in Gjilan. Minimal design, solar panels, green roof and the rainwater harvesting , makes this skinny house unique in neighbourhood. With a good design, a small space gives the feeling of a big and functional area.

The house is located in north-west side of Gjilan, in “Dardania I” neighborhood. This neighborhood meets all the basic needs for a comfortable life. The terrain is flat. Land belongs to the type of black soil. The house is located in west side of the site. It’s a norrow site area, with 4.2m width and 29m length. It has a surface of 120m2. The ground floor has a surface of 55.4m2. The total building surface is 231.2 m2, with elevation B + GF + 2nd. The parcel is connected with the road in the west side. In north and south sides, the house is surrounded by neighboring houses. As site access can only be done from the west, this forces the house to have the main entrance from the west side. Working with a narrow site area of just over four metres, plan of the building had to be done carefully to ensure none of the spaces appeared too cramped. Taking into consideration the basic architecture principle, the focus was precisely on the realization of a function that best suits the respective parcel. Basement is designed for enterntainment purposes and storage. Ground floor focuses on fulfiling basic living needs. This floor has a toilet, situated near the entrence door. Than it’s the kitchen and the dinning table. The living room is situated in the end and from there you can get out to the backyard. The first floor is organised in two spaces, it has the working space and the library. Also there are two balconies, one from the main road and the other one is smaller and looks to the garden. In the second floor the main function is sleeping. The space is separeted in four parts, parents bedroom, kid bedroom and two bathrooms. The roof of the house has a slope of 6.4%. It has solar panels and is a green roof with low vegetation. The green roof has many good features, for example, reduces the noise coming from the outside, giving the second floor, where the bedrooms are located, a quiet and comfortable environment for rest. It also reduces the amount of sunlight, which helps the indoor environment to be cool during the hot summer days. It’s home for a couple and their kid, in one of the many densely build-up neighborhood of the city.
