Sometimes there is no need to make a big project to solve a big problem, created between public use and the citizens. Considering the potential of architecture to impact on our cities, the intention is to create, just with the right move, a new relationship and a new final point on the Roses coast walk that will become a new landmark of the city.
The project aims to be a landmark in the fishing port and a living space all year round. To achieve this, the project consists of two volumes of different heights strategically placed to accommodate the proposed use of each volume. The project itself opens to the sea and turns its back on the dry dock, creating a relationship between the two volumes that makes the two pieces interact. In the piece that turns its back on the dry dock, we can find the diving school located, embracing storage spaces to store all the necessary equipment and changing rooms. This piece is placed as close as possible to the exit to the water in order to have a smaller path as possible due to the material weight. In the other part of the volume, we can also find a reception space and lecture rooms that can work separately and all year long. Understanding that the scuba diving school may not be open all year, it’s been decided to divide the project into three parts to that each can work individually and without relying on others. The second piece is placed parallel and rises on the other. It is placed part-flying over the platform and opens to the sea achieving all the views of the bay of Roses. This second piece is the Bar-Restaurant, proposed for public use and can be used all year. The volumes are all accessed from the exterior space that links the two pieces. On this platform we find descending stands that want to be a space where we can stay and interact with water. The platform extends on a slope becoming the access to the boats that will load the equipment and the divers to go for the activity. Not only does the project have the function of responding to the established program, but it also plays an important role in the Roses coast walk, wanting to be an end of the coast walk and wanting to give a new order to the site. It does not deny or stand in the way of existing uses but is intended to support one another by creating new connections between them and a better relationship with people.
