Mainly focusing on socio humanistic urban ecology, the project aims at developing a new type of urban residential complex in ecological relation with the surrounding context, investigating the type of future residential complex that particularly includes residents who plan the second life in an aging society, and building a ecological urban platform
Selecting the Samgak mansion and the KEPCO site covered by dense urban fabric, the project attempts to reestablish the relationship among vacant lot, the Samgak mansion, and the surroundings, to develop a new type of urban residential complex, to suggest a housing complex as a social platform to support the citizens who seek double-crop in a so called field of aged-life. The project proceeds as follows: 1) Deriving the design concept from the site selecting motive 2) Establishing the land use plan and building layout alternatives through the design process following humanistic, social, and geographical analysis of the land and its surroundings 3) Creating design strategies and multiple alternatives for the new facilities on the basis of the results from site analysis and platform related case studies 4) Presenting design results and alternatives based on the program derived through the design process.\nRebuilding the site causing an ecological discontinuity of the city to a residential complex, the project intends to introduce a social platform in planning a new ecologically oriented housing, to apply an ‘open block plan’ to the site design, and to reconfigure the flow of urban ecology through both a spatial and social link within the complex.\nConsidering the void as conceptual platform, the project sets range with the platform as the central figure, and urbanizes the site itself through the connection between architecture and the city.
