The thesis, develops a proposal for recovery and renovation of the Church of San Antonio de la Florida and its urban surroundings, in the city of Madrid. The presence of Goya's paintings in the Church leads to suggest an integrated museum building and an urban restyling of the surrounding square.
One of the interventions concerns the recovery of the square, first of all aimed at offering a public space for the inhabitants of the neighborhood. More specifically it provides: the construction of an underpass for cars so you can pedestrianize entire square up to the Reina Victoria Bridge; the construction of a pedestrian underpass to create a direct connection of the square at the Parque de Oeste; the pedestrianization of the square, it becomes a natural extension of the Park to the river. The green accommodation provides, in general, the preservation of the existing trees, and the conformation of green areas for the free time; among other things, it provides for the planting of new trees on backwaters areas churches. The green is interrupted by a series of walkways, headed towards the entrance of the church of Goya. Besides, there is a footpath, curved and parallel to the river, that reinterprets and symbolizes the attitude of the ancient shore of the Manzanares. Another unique aspect of the project has been the creation of a museum below the square that furthermore acts as a liaison with the pedestrian underpass. The new exhibition space is dedicated to the life of Goya and his artistic stages and connects structurally hermitage that becomes a museum of the history of the area. The internal structure of the museum is spread over several floor levels, linked together by means of ramps and a single itinerary, completely devoid of architectural barriers. The museum roof, at the same level of the plaza decking, follows the natural contour of the surrounding terrain.
