The project revitalizes the abandoned Vetter’s Malthouse in Lublin, combining industrial heritage preservation with modern use. The most degraded parts are removed, leaving a permanent ruin. Corten steel elements replicate historical details, while contemporary colored glass enhances functionality, subtly complementing the brick façade. This transformation breathes new life into the site, seamlessly reintegrating it into the urban fabric.
The aim of this project is to preserve as much of the building’s original structure as possible while introducing contemporary elements that harmonize with its historical character. The new design utilizes Corten steel, which will gradually weather over time and stained glass. These modern materials will complement the original brick walls, emphasizing the building’s history while giving it a fresh, contemporary purpose. The concept focuses on creating a space that bridges the past and the present. The project reimagines the surrounding area through a carefully designed landscape, with a central courtyard serving as the heart of the site. This courtyard will not only restore the building’s original spatial configuration but it will also provide a flexible, welcoming space for events and activities. By reintroducing this space to the city, the project aims to give the former Vetter Brewery a new lease on life, turning it into a self-sustaining cultural, social, and creative hub. The carefully selected functions and spaces will help meet the contemporary needs of the community, while ensuring the building’s financial viability . The goal is to provide a vibrant place for culture, art, and social gatherings that respects the site’s past but looks forward to a new future. This project represents more than just the preservation of a historic building – it is an attempt to reframe the narrative of industrial heritage, turning it into a living, breathing part of the city’s fabric. By honoring the past while integrating modern needs, the project offers a vision of how our heritage can be preserved and reinterpreted for future generations.”
