Brick was one of the main building materials and it suddenly disappears during and after the industrial revolution. In 21st century the brick re-appears as sudden as it was lost. I started experimenting with the typical size of brick and challenge the limit of the material.
My aim was to use a traditional material as a new, using the basic size of it (200 x 100 x 50mm) but creating modules and types to design a ''Research and Information centre at Ayios Theodoros in Cyprus''. I choose the village of Ayios Theodoros because in Cyprus was the first village that came to approach traditional brick and until today has the biggest production of industrial and traditional brick. Ayios Theodoros community is inscribe brick on UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) list because was the first village that brings brick in Cyprus and still people live by this. In Cyprus we used to use brick in our buildings, but after the industrial revolution brick was replaced with steel and concrete. My main aim is to remind that the traditional brick has so many benefits and uses. Brick is a local material, environmental friendly, build-on site by the locals, is cheap in price, decorative, strong and easy to create modules and types.
