In the northern boundary of the city, the contrast between tradition, cultural heritage and the degradation and uncontrolled growth of one of the most problematic neighbourhood. Moreover, the imbalance and social decontextualization caused by cultural and economic diversity raise the risk of social exclusion of the most vulnerable groups.
The needs of the neighborhood, the regeneration of the northern edge of the city and the reintegration of its population, as well as the interculturality that takes place in it, postulate the program of the intergenerational center as a possible social and landscape tool that manages to solve the problems in a joint. The concepts that shape the project are, first of all, the need to reintegrate into the society of Rascanya, taking advantage of the cultural and generational diversity that coexist in it. The intergenerational center acts as a catalyst for generations to feed back and relate to each other, highlighting the most relevant socio-cultural elements in the area. On the other hand, regenerating the north huerta of the city, dialoguing with the orchard and San Miguel de los Reyes is another of the premises that define the direction taken in the conception of the project, which is part of the network of facilities that occupies the north promenade of the huerta and that is directly related to them to complement its functionality. Finally, the heterogeneity in the uses proposed by the center, in order to reach all members of society, makes it necessary to endow it with functional autonomy to resolve the use of the partial project and give the widest range of use of the project possible.
