The proposal is a review of a former East Berlin's site. By the theme of the Höf, the project rediscovers Berlin's architectural heritage. The repetition of the type articulates private and public spaces, squares, exceptional sites among river Spree under Sbahn train's archway, through a contemporary language in continuity with historical heritage.
The project is a reasoned proposal, based on the urban cultural heritage of Berlin such as a critic to the disorganized model of the city. This proposal fits into the last thirty years architectural debate panorama afterthought, from the cultural reference of IBA ’84 to the Planwerk Innenstadt, the present guidelines’ plan for the new image of Berlin.\nRe-Thinking this urban block, my intention is to respond to the issue of a newfound city's desire, founded on the social dynamics which the former city succeded to estbilsh with its physionomies and systems. The former city plan is the retrospective of a new composition which gather around the historical transport system hub, Jannowitzbrücke station, the most important pole of the site.\nIn this sense, the project is founded on a simple and composite formal strategy. The new program is set as a restoration of the former plan through a compact and modular design, following the pattern of the train transport masonry structure. Answering the rising residential request, a large variety of apartmens and lodges takes place onto a straordinary region of the city, articulated on the theme of the Höf, courtyard, former Berlin’s leitmotiv. Supporting the metropolitan station, a new civic pole agrees to the future landmarking of Berlin’s central Alexanderplatz, setting up two high rise building that relate to the shape of the present heights of former socialist district and to the future developing skyline.\nThe ambition of this work is to conduce into a single overall design these listed issues. The critic reconstruction of the block is never a slavish formal repetition of a lost forgotten track but a field test, a union gesture in between the differecies and limits of the site.
