The aim of this project is to research more sustainable ways of settlement and housing production in a particularly delicate and complex context (economic, legal, social and environmental) like the favela of Florianopolis (Brazil) called “Serrinha”, by mimicking the Informal and introducing technical and Social Innovation for the community.
This Project deals with the development of sustainable and resilient housing solutions, as a part of the more extensive project aimed at rethinking the physical, economic and social boundaries of the Serrinha’s community. By using a simple, sustainable and replicable constructive system - the earth compressed block - the project guarantees the fulfilment of essential habitability requirements. The partial loss of control over the project becomes the precondition to achieve flexibility: indeed, the project - intended as a prototype open to the cooperative planning by its inhabitants - succeeds in the fulfilment of the most variable residential needs, by capitalizing the autonomous building abilities which the community has given evidence of. The aim is to generate a space of simple concreteness and infinite opportunities, embodying that wandering between Earth and Sky, which is ultimately the indecipherable essence of man’s Dwelling.
