The project take place in an urban void in the western area of Castellón, a new urban development area next to Jaume I University called Riu Sec. The objective is to provide the neighborhood and the city with a center where they can develop their most innovative ideas and encourage the creation of new companies that favor the economic growth of Castellón city.
The research center is formally presented with emphaticity on the plot, inserting itself in the place with a certain dynamism and movement, unique to the streams and paths of the promenade and nature. In the orthogonal and directional scheme that both the platforms and green areas draw, the research center with longitudinal, orthogonal and offset shapes is drawn as one more. It is of straight lines and due to its location, it is integrated in the land taking advantage of the different slopes. But given its program, its volume is fragmented to segregate within the diverse functions it is accommodated for. Thus, three volumes are projected, two longitudinal ones that hold a library, a performance hall, a gym, and multipurpose rooms, in short, the most public and open-use areas of the neighborhood. All of them tied by a transversal volume that wraps and connects the spaces, with large patios and completely open to the outside. Its small lags help us to emphasize the accesses, generate the routes and flows.\nThe building seeks to address the environment with a similar character, to be an industrial building, without pretensions, inserting itself into the environment and being a container for the development of the neighborhood. In all its construction, therefore, a material honesty and an industrialization of its products is sought, this will provide greater construction quality, greater speed and ease of construction, but at the same time presenting an industrial character, a prefabricated building for the environment and not an environment designed for the building.
