Quest of The Egyptian Identity - Theatre Of The People: Performing Arts Center

The Egyptian government creates a new capital, but is it the right way to celebrate the Egyptian identity? Whom always voiced their concerns throughout history in their revolutions, which should be reflected in what is given to the people now in the new capital. The people’s square is for the people to sound their concerns, but does it cater for expression?

Graduation Project Topic/question: Quest of the Egyptian Identity. Identity take: As Shown through history, Egyptians are very resilient and they speak up and express their want to change and better living through a series of revolutions through history. Thesis Statement: As Egyptians have shown through history their resilience and expression to calling for change and better living; Egyptians need to have buildings that accommodate and celebrate their identity and becomes catalysts for expression for all Egyptians. Concept Approach: Accordingly, the Egyptian identity, particularly the humanistic aspect of patriotism and resilience should be reflected on the architecture of the new cities Problem: There is a lack of architectural typologies that address Egyptians’ identity and their freedom of expression Approach: Theatre of the oppressed model “—you do not have to wait “until after the revolution” for worthwhile social improvements – you could use theatre to make radical changes in the here and now” -Augusto Boal Typology: Theatre Of The People: Performing Arts Center – Expression Catalyst + Social Change Tool, Through Theatre, Pluralism, And Knowledge Sharing. Manifesto: The Egyptian Identity dismantled = Buildings + people’s character – Missing Essence. Theatre of The People aims to create a symbolic representation of A Civic Heart for the City, with project aims of reconnecting with the Egyptian roots, regaining the human dominance in scale, regaining human dominance of place, and create a sense of protection, belonging, empowerment, and self expression. How? The affecting force fields of the surroundings and the plaza: outer fields pulling/pushing outwards , and then the catalyst seeds pushing/pulling inwards. The molecular configuration of the empty plaza being rigid, overpowering, harsh, and dominating is being transformed or reconfigured into a reforming, reconstructing, and a more flexible molecular configuration through the utilization of the external forces, and internal forces, acting force fields result to the creation of spaces and expression opportunities.
