The project seeks an alternative way of creating an institiuton in the heart of Athens: an art-house that encourages events/encounters/ spontaneity/ oddity together with architectural explorations in different scales.
‘Chaos finds its own way.’ The project is an experiment that investigates the forms and consequences of shaping the city of economic and social chaos. Therefore, an alternative art house design has been pursued.Potentialities of architectural drawing are also critical in this question. Aim:Architecture’s role to behave as a stage to perform undetermined and spontenaous. Activity and movement based architecture is significant here. Also, the plasticity and materiality is quite critical.Spatiality:The institution includes two kinds of spatial configurations: -each aims different possibilities- tensile and compressive architecture.Tensile architecture: exists in the ground floor, at the center of the area. Compressive architecture: upper floors volumes. Different usages of the expansive emptiness determined by the open-office, which is the core of the institute. This is a sacredly realised space for an unknown user, as a result of wonder someone can join the system of the compressive parts and wander. The conflict between tensile and compressive forces of the spaces create a scaleless entity, which resists singularity and power, but multiple readings and usages of the spaces. This is also the characteristics of the institution.
