The project assumes introduction of new cubature units at the castle of Janowiec, independent from the historical walls, in the spaces left after the primary structures , and adding new functions, due to which the castle will gain maintenance. It was a priority not to disturb the perception of historical tissue, i. e. to choose a proper form and materials.
The work concerns a permanent ruin, the castle of Janowiec. The project assumes introducing new cubature units in the spaces left after the primary structures . An important aim was the least possible interference with the historical tissue. The object has an attractive location at the lofty slope over the Vistula River, due to which it can be seen from far away. New functions at the castle will present an opportunity for the local entrepreneurs. In spite of its potential the object is not a tourist attraction .The scarce existing functions do not fulfil the standard requirements or the technical conditions. Only the Main Courtyard of the castle is available for the disabled. My project assumes maximum use of the space and the height of the structure determined by the conservator. The project determines the use of the least possible amount of materials in order not to disturb the perception of the historical tissue; glass – used in the spaces of the primary structure, sheet metal – used for cover, wood – for added value. Due to the introduction of new cubature units it is possible to go round the castle and enter each of the units separately. The project includes: the connection between the castle hill and the town, the emergency exit from the auditorium during the sightseeing rush hour and the direct connection of the foot-bridge with the parking lot.
