The idea of creating a pedestrian bridge, which would connect the hard-to-reach but beloved slopes of Kyiv Dnieper, existed in the plans of architects for more than 100 years. We were lucky that the stars finally came together, uniting the desires of several generations of Kyivites and the determination of the city authorities.
The freestanding structure of the bridge is determined by the significant elements of the surrounding environment and architecture. Each linear segment (about 70m each) is oriented on such landmarks as: monument to Volodymyr the Great, to Magdeburg Rights, ‘People’s Friendship Arch’, European Square.
The bridge has three spans with a total length of 210.7 m, variable width 6-14 m, the length of which is in the direction from Volodymyrska Hill Park to the Friendship Monument peoples is respectively 63.1 m, 79.9 m, 67.7 m. In places of pedestrian turn parts of the bridge provide for the installation of observation decks. In the cross section of the span of the bridge is provided along its axis two bicycle lanes 1 m wide each, and symmetrically to it two pedestrian lanes sidewalks 1.5 wide. The construction of the bridge is based on two stands (one in the park "Vladimirskaya slide ", the second near the Arch of Friendship of Peoples) and two supports, the height of which is in the direction from Volodymyrska Hill Park to the Peoples' Friendship Monument is 27 m and 33 m m. Supports and stands of the bridge made of monolithic reinforced concrete. The bearing part of the bridge between the supports - metal beams. Coating design - metal, concrete, hussasfalt. The material of the supports is reinforced concrete. Foundations - reinforced concrete piles.
