The park regenerates a riverside area near Veles, by the Prevalec settlement, creating a central, open “living room” for the community. The park is envisioned as an urban carpet for play, surrounded by the atmosphere of meadows and plantings. Sports fields offer recreation for all ages, while the playground provides diverse play scenarios for children. The entire concept involves shaping the existing topography through small elevations and gardens integrated into the square, populated with native grass species and perennial plants.
This space aims to offer layered responses related to public life, leisure, child development and sports by encouraging active time outdoors in touch with nature. Spatial zones include: Embracing the River - enabling access to the Topolka River through simple clearing and preserved vegetation, ideal for sitting, socializing or meditation. Sports Platform - a single surface combines two basketball courts, a mini football field and a handball court beneath tall riverside poplars, offering space for all ages to stay active. Exercise under Canopies - fitness area beneath tall trees, on soft, earthy-toned flooring. Crescent of Plays - provides swings, climbing nets and a sculptural ping-pong table in a safe setting that fosters interaction. The Big Little Hill - abstract urban elevation is intended for open interpretation: as a mountain to conquer for the youngest, a space for play, cycling, sunbathing or spontaneous romance. All program units are integrated through a central space, a small square that functions as a new gathering place for the local community.
The material strategy of Prevalec Park reflects a commitment to durability, accessibility and low maintenance, supporting its role as an inclusive public space. A continuous concrete platform ensures full accessibility and supports diverse activities - cycling, skating, gathering and children’s play. The material palette includes concrete, steel, timber, and sports-grade rubber, selected for resilience and tactile quality. Custom urban furniture has been purpose-designed for this site, ensuring contextual relevance and long-term usability. Notably, the “Laliki” lighting elements serve both as functional infrastructure and sculptural landmarks: vibrant red by day, subtly glowing by night. The landscape is enhanced by native grasses and perennial plants, which add sensory richness and ecological value, while preserved trees along the perimeter provide natural shade and strengthen the park’s connection to its surrounding environment.
