A museum should act as a connector between Austria and Hungary in order to strengthen the region`s identity, integrity and belonging, especially because nations all around the world start building new fences and walls along their borders. The history of this place should be open to the public.
The Iron Curtain between Austria and Hungary, their political systems and their people was teared down. The scars, which the border created in the landscape, began to heal. But what about the people? Have the fears they once felt left their heads and hearts? Through this project, I hope to contribute to the process of socio-cultural integration we experience today in the European Community, a process that began with an open gate at the Pan-European Picnic in August 1989. Therefor I intend to create a building as a connector between St. Margarethen im Burgenland (Austria) and Fert?rákos (Hungary) in order to strengthen the region`s identity, integrity and belonging, especially because nations all around the world start building new fences and walls along their borders. A museum is supposed to complement and structure the existing paneuropean memory park. The history of this place should be open tot he public, because the people are still interested in the incidents during the existing „Iron Curtain“ and it is very important to deal with this subject.
