From Renaissance up to the Contemporary Museum there is a particular thing to be considered about museums – it tends to change by its content and its external appearance. Characterized with universal design, Children’s museum offers a cozy warm place so children can play, get socialized with different cultures and also get active education.
A museum represents a building with the purpose of collecting, conserving, interpreting and displaying artifacts with historical, social and cultural significance, to educate the public. Nowadays, except the main factor – education, the museum expands the accommodation of activities, which offer the visitor not only education but also the feeling of joy while he explores in its internal spaces. Using expositions, the museum achieves different relation with different communities and considering their role the museum shapes – it develops other parts depending on the variety of functions and as an outcome it gives the visitor a special feeling of spatial experience. Children should have appropriate spaces where they can deal with activities that they like and at the same time learn from them. As early as the child follows the system of active learning, the more she/he will express her/his interest about studying and developing in the future. Creating spaces which contain the philosophy of separation but visually they interact with each other, I tried to achieve democracy between what’s happening inside the museum and the visitor observing from the outside, safety and confidence between a child playing away from her/his mother or teacher, or sensitivity to the child working or dealing with different activities, surrounded by nature. Using bubble diagrams and schematic sketching with location as a reference, I could arrange different spaces following a linear distribution of functions: 1. Workshop 2. Children’s exhibition 3. Museum main and special exhibitions. A special point to be mentioned in this building is the embodiment of form with structure and materials. The structure represents a “column and compound beams” wood frame structure. The beams penetrate the building’s envelope which is consisted of glass, to reach the outdoor space and while the visitor is wandering inside the building he will feel that he isn’t moving in an enclosed space surrounded by walls. Because of the frame spreading along museum’s length, they also create a game of light and shadows in elevations.
