Treatment
The concept for a better organisation of the waste disposal is based on a careful analysis of the city. The proposal should consider all social structures completed by an architect’s plan to develop a closed circle.
The main reason why we choose to develop a strategy for waste management in Naples was to counteract the waste production which is rather a global problem. It was during our studies abroad in Genova and Naples, when we recognized this problem and started to ask ourselves how we could find a different way to deal with it. The challenge for us as architects was to solve the problem by interacting with the local circumstances and not only to design a nice facade for a treatment facility which often hides the function itself. Our thesis should give an input to initiate a different thinking about how to deal with natural resources, waste and local differences. The outcome from our work was to show that waste is not necessarily a bad thing but rather can be an initiator for a social metamorphosis.
