A building that purposes to be an articulation route and space aggregator, capable of approaching different publics and sites among themselves, able of collecting from its surroundings and give back to it. A theatre designed to create and transform its spaces according to the presentation’s necessities, suiting the show.
The undergraduate thesis consists in a proposition of a theatrical building, which is supposed to be an articulating and aggregating channel of the space, bringing different types of public together, with the ability to harvest from the surroundings and give it back to the community. Able to transform itself according to the show needs, which may even be outside the building and reveal the nuances of the cenotechnics. Connection space, cultural manifestation and identity expression characterize the Multiple Theater. In order for the building to perform its intended function fully, a place with a strong cultural history with lacking representation of local culture was chosen, but also a place with urban dynamics favorable to receive a cultural building with such impact. In order to meet the already nominated characteristics and in addition to the need of a space compatible with the necessities program, the land of approximately 3475m² was chosen in the neighborhood of Saúde (RJ-Brazil). Today occupied by a private parking lot, the land faces Rua Sacadura Cabral to the South, which serves as a connecting axis between the grounded part (the newest one) and the old city of the hills (where are located the ‘favelas’, the historic context of the portuary zone and the slaves). After the development of the necessities program and in compliance with the current legislation on templates, three blocks were created. The “Foyer block”, which relates with the eclectic houses in the surroundings, welcoming the public and users of the space. Forming a kind of internal street, the “Scenic box” moves away from the Foyer Block, creating the connection inside the building and linking the two sides of the block. At the other end of the Scenic box, the “Support block” holds all the necessary functions for the show to perform fully. The building setbacks and the flows it promotes, creates living spaces allowing the community and the public to appropriate them and became a part of its function. Facing the Scenic box, a set of stairs forms the amphitheater, that can function both as an audience for a possible show and as a seating area.
