Moscow Institute for Fashion and Design:

The Red Proletarian area was once an important costructivist productive site. Today it's an unexploited lot 1 block away from the Gorkji Park, one of the largest green areas in the city of Moscow. The Moscow Fashion Institute for Fashion and Design is a new multifunctional building with a sovietic shape.

The “Mosow Institute for Fashion and Design” is a large structure composed of several parts. Moving from the square, where the Red Proletarian factories used to be located, the multifunctional building is the first part you can see. An inner facade is placed 8 metres away from the prospectus, causing it to look smooth at first sight while hiding the actual shape of the first building. The building underlines the contrapposition between solid and void, where several shops, a librery and a rooftop pool are located. The inner facade is covered in 1,5cm-thick granite slabs. The long wig (272 metres) dedicated to student residencies is the only completely independent section of the new hub, even though it is surrounded by other buildings. This section shows a constructivist inspiration and is perceived as a “parassite” by the city of Moscow: it rises for 19 metres above the pre-existing buildings without affecting the original shape. The 390 single badrooms are connected to the ground through ten lobbies hosting the elevators and the stairscases. The classrooms are located in the bridge structure connecting the multifunctional building to the tower. The long elevated wig makes it possible to overstep the 83 metres of void between the two staircases, both acting as support structures. Each level hosts 8 large classrooms, if needed they may double their capacity through concealable partition walls. The tower, a new landmark for the city, reaches the sky of Moscow with its 165 metres in height. The classrooms wing on the 7th floor and the top cube on the 31st floor break the uniformity of the perallelepiped. The firmness of this huge neo-constructivist complex dimes on the instertions between the buildings, which occur to have a minimised plane of contact. The tower includes six floors of offices, eleven floors of classrooms and laboratories from schools of specialization, nine floors of temporary recidencies for professors and Ph. D. students, a rooftop restaurant and an observatory.
