Acting in Girona; rather than promoting the city in an external framework, seeks in the first to recover the streets of the neighbourhood and through the neighbourhood, returning the site use and cultural identity, erasing the only touristic observation of the city. You could identify traces of a not-distant past, in the stones but also in current minds.
The project is the creation of a film school, which sharing spaces with the current cinema will act as the axis of a cultural space with a certain disconnection between the elements. The main problem is the cloistering of the activities within each of the buildings, which makes it difficult for the people to discover what activities take place there and participate in them. The main action will consist to open the activity of this school to the city either through the transfer of spaces or the offer of activities. \nBoth the Modern and the UNED are unique spaces in Girona, reason why it was clear all the time that the work had to respect the visual structure of the buildings and focus on the empty space left between. \nThe proposal focuses on a covered outdoor space which is used collectively for various activities depending on the need. Mainly thought of as an exhibitor of what happens inside the school with the possibility of all pedestrians observing the activities, besides the space is considered as a place to make the popular street cinema, an activity that groups people of all ages promoting the space not only on a neighbourhood but city scale. \nThe actions in the existing buildings have, the aim to transform the current building into the central building of the southern cultural pole; the proposal centres circulation on an interior staircase, which is given to the city to give it collective use and thus favour the Mercè-Modern-Theatre connection, making the route cultural and playful by itself. \nThe new access, together with the square and the circulation between the three buildings make the space go from being a corner of the city to a space that offers culture and activities, a centre of leisure and creation. In the UNED building, a complete emptying of the interior is planned with the conservation of the facades in order to build an interior volume that will recover the theoretical school activity, being the main point of the Cinema School. The current building of Modern, a new access and interior activities adaptation are projected and with a practical film laboratory in the underground with recording rooms and directly.
