Improvements in the automation of logistics processes will lead to the disappearance of hubs to become integrated systems that collapse supply and distribution. The proposal is to generate a landmark element within the highway that absorbs logistics flows, linking and providing public programs to the city.
The centre is interpreted as a solid logistics block, a warehouse for the immediate needs of citizens. In such a block, the main public spaces are defined as absences of building, voids dug into the solid of storage. In the moment they are defined as voids, the individual programs can be spaces understood strictly according to their own logic, independent of each other, of the exterior and of the classic obstacles of architecture. Together they constitute a chain of individualized spaces, ranging from the conventional to the experimental. The voids, as well as the robotized storage system, are configurable. Their spatial capacity is determined by its shape, but the different configurations provided by the system of floor elevators, turn them into spaces with multiple program capacities, providing their uses with flexibility despite their specific formal condition that characterizes them. This characterization is present from the outside. The continuous envelope gives homogeneity, but allows to see the inner veins The relative positions of the voids are adjusted to their programmatic needs, being enclosed in the interior, tangent to the edges to introduce natural light or emerging on the roof to form part of the public square. The roof floor becomes part of the city's public space, a large square to which the orders ascend and from where you access to the different programs, a square of the new online market whose scenic backdrop is Madrid. It is the element that hybridizes the two main functions of the center and that is intensified when the voids emerge on the roof and become part of the scene. The flow of deliveries is collapsed with the flow of people, thus achieving social involvement in the logistics system. MAD.URB.SUPPLY integrates urban production with a new form of logistics , sustainable and with a great social implication. The increase of digital flows, advanced technologies and new forms of delivery further determine the physical manifestation of storage as a flow. A service that is changing the way we live is integrated into the city and adapts the services that surround it together.
